On Sunday, 4 October, Prague’s Rudolfinum came alive with the music of two remarkable figures in film music – Jerry Goldsmith and Basil Poledouris. The concert Music of Hollywood: Goldsmith & Poledouris celebrated two composers whose scores have become an essential part of cinema history, yet whose music is still heard on the concert stage far less often than it deserves.
Under the baton of conductor Chuhei Iwasaki, the Hradec Králové Philharmonic Orchestra and choir took the audience on a journey through several decades of film music – from Alien, Total Recall, RoboCop and Rambo to Star Trek: First Contact, Basic Instinct, The Mummy, The Hunt for Red October, Starship Troopers and the monumental score for Conan the Barbarian.
The opportunity to experience this music performed by a full symphony orchestra, joined by a choir in several pieces, was one of the main reasons we wanted to create this concert. We were therefore delighted by the audience response and the wonderful atmosphere throughout the evening. Music of Hollywood was a great success and, above all, a wonderful gathering of people who share our passion for film music.

And most importantly, thank you to our audience. Thank you for joining us, for your reactions throughout the concert, for the applause at the end of the evening, and for all the messages and comments you have sent us since. It is your enthusiasm that makes projects like this worthwhile.
